Project>Me Students Plant Trees Near the Monon< Go back
November 17th, 2014
Students, teachers and families partnered with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) to plant 22 Elm and Kentucky Coffee trees along the Monon Trail near 53rd
and Winthrop over the Fall Break. The student group called Project>Me is an after school club sponsored by Pro(Act), a non-profit organization working with youth to encourage and facilitate service in their community. Fifth and sixth grade students meet each Monday, along with a teacher sponsor, to discover more about themselves and their role in their own communities. This tree planting was just one of many service projects the group will spend their Saturdays doing.
Oaklandon families and supporters might remember that KIB partnered with Oaklandon during the spring of 2013 for Earth Day by donating and helping to plant 183 native Indiana trees on the school grounds. This was a great opportunity to act as actual partners with KIB by “giving back” a little and to expose students to the benefits of philanthropic work in our own community.
